Candida

Candida Albicans is a fungal (yeast) overgrowth that can be found in the intestinal tract (among other places). If your immune system is functioning properly, this infection is rarely serious. However, if the immune system is compromised, the candida infection can migrate to other areas of the body, including the blood and membranes around the heart or brain.

Candida is a fungus that aids with nutrient absorption and digestion, when in proper levels in the body. When it overgrows, a huge range of symptoms can appear. The fungus can break down the walls of the intestinal lining and penetrate into the bloodstream causing something called Leaky Gut.

When you body’s natural pH balance is upset, the candida can grow out of control. A healthy gut microbiome and a properly functioning immune system are essential when fighting Candida.

Candida overgrowth can happen to anyone, and is caused by things such as; broad spectrum antibiotics, birth control, poor diet, and more.

A lot of times, people have no idea that they have Candida overgrowth, because the symptoms are so common. Some of them include; migraines, acne, menstrual disorders, brain fog, ADHD, memory loss, weight gain, hair loss/issues, asthma, bloating, constipation, digestive issues, adrenal fatigue, aching joints, and more.

The problem with this condition is that your average doctor wont test you for it, as they don’t believe its a problem. That is where integrative and functional medicine come into play.

In order to heal Candida, you must follow a strict diet for 6-12 months (more or less depending on your case). I will talk more about the diet and supplements I used in other sections, but just to outline, you will have to remove gluten, dairy, eggs, sugar, processed foods, alcohol and moldy foods from your diet. I expand on this here.

You absolutely CAN heal from Candida. Even though I still struggle with other issues, I was able to get my Candida under control in about 8 months with a lot of disciple and dedication. It is doable. My biggest advice, although I know its damn near impossible, is DON’T STRESS. I know it seems like the end of the world. But it will get better.
